This is in reference to data on the number of COVID-19 patients at hospitals that decreased and the mortality rate that also reportedly fell, while the cure rate has nearly doubled. West Java begin applying PSBB since May 6.
"I report that as of May 12, the number of patients at the hospitals averaged at around 350, decreasing from some 430 at the end of April," West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil told reporters in Bandung, Tuesday.
The death rate has also dropped, from seven to four patients per day, while the cure rate has nearly doubled.
Furthermore, the rate of transmission of the new coronavirus that causes COVID-19 also reportedly decreased, from three percent before PSBB to 0.86 percent after the enactment.
Kamil believes this positive outcome was possible with imposition of a ban on the Idul Fitri mudik (exodus) and strict rules of social distancing.
"With the ban on mudik and the tightening of PSBB, our (transmission) index has dropped to 0.86 meaning that one patient can transmit (the virus) to another person probably in two days," he expounded.
With this positive outcome, Kamil spoke of the possibility of easing PSBB measures in 63 percent of West Java’s area, but not in the other 37 percent of the area that has yet to show positive figures on the data of COVID-19 transmission.
Speaking in connection with the means of public transportation, Kamil highlighted the government's concern on the possibility of transmission.
"We are still apprehensive about relaxation in the use of public transportation since our data indicates that one percent of the people at train stations and bus terminals tested positive (for coronavirus)," he noted.
