Jakarta (ANTARA) - People suffering from kidney and heart ailments face a greater risk of death if they contract the coronavirus disease, according to chief of the Task Force for Acceleration of COVID-19 Handling, Doni Monardo.

According to data shared during a limited meeting on evaluation of large-scale social restrictions, held on Tuesday in Jakarta via video conferencing, 7 out of 10 COVID-19 patients who already suffer from kidney ailments are at risk of death.

"Of 10 COVID-19 patients with kidney issues, seven face the risk of dying, 6.8 out of 10, to be exact, which is a considerably high number," Monardo noted.

COVID-19 patients suffering from heart disease have the second highest risk of death.

Five out of 10 coronavirus patients who are also suffering from heart disease are at risk of death, Monardo said.

Therefore, he said, those with a history of kidney and heart disease must increase their vigilance.

They must adhere to health protocols to maintain physical distance, always wash hands with soap, refrain from touching their faces with dirty hands, and wear masks.

They must take self-isolation seriously and not participate in any activity, especially one involving strangers, Monardo advised.
