Jambi (ANTARA) - The police detained five people on charges of torching a COVID-19 command post and vandalizing a village head office in Air Batu, Renah Pembarap Sub-district, Merangin District, Jambi Province, on Tuesday.

Chief of the Marangin District Police Adjunct Senior Commissioner M. Luffi opined that the incident took place since direct cash assistance distribution had missed the target.

Following the incident on Tuesday night, the Merangin District Police dispatched its officers to the scene to accrue data and evidence. They later questioned witnesses, of which four were confirmed to be suspects.

One witness has yet to undergo in-depth questioning to be named a suspect, he noted.

"During the investigation, the Merangin District Police uncovered several pieces of information on the torching of the COVID-19 command post. Based on the information, the police later named five suspects identified as Hambi (33), Sopi (27), Japaris (27), Dimas (35), and Said (38). They are all residents of Air Batu Village, Renah Pembarap Sub-district," he added.
