"We are making preparations to establish the National Data Center. The minister has sent a letter to the (finance) minister and the minister of Bappenas (National Development Planning) for its acceleration. We are upbeat about completing the preparations this year and commencing its creation," Pangerapan remarked here on Sunday.
Earlier, speaking in connection with the alleged leak of the General Election Commission’s (KPU’s) data, Minister of Communication and Informatics Johnny G. Plate had noted on Friday that the Government's National Data Center will integrate all types of government data with a multi-layered security system that aligns with the security standards.
The minister expects that the data center would solve the overlapping issue among public institutions and aid in bolstering national data and information security.
In the meantime, the ministry's Directorate General of Post and Informatics, Ahmad M. Ramli, echoed the ministry’s commitment to securing data in the COVID-19 Care and Protection contact-tracking application in cooperation with the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN).
In line with President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi’s) directive, the ministry has forged coordination with BSSN to secure data and prevent a personal data breach, he remarked.
Recently, a hacker claimed to have stolen the personal data of 2.3 million Indonesian citizens from the KPU's eligible voters' list. The perpetrator claimed to have data of some 200 million Indonesian citizens.
In early May, the personal data of at least 91 million customers of the e-commerce platform Tokopedia was illegally exposed and traded on the dark web.
