Samarinda, E Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Floods submerged several parts of Samarinda, the capital of East Kalimantan Province, in the past three days, compelling 605 residents to evacuate to higher ground, the local disaster mitigation office stated.

"On the basis of preliminary data, the 605 affected people that took refuge are all residents of Sungai Pinang Sub-district. However, several others may not have been recorded," acting chief of the Samarinda City Disaster Mitigation Office (BPBD) Hendra A. H. noted here on Tuesday.

According to the BPBD, flooding has inundated 13,157 homes in four sub-districts in Samarinda.

A total of 30,895 residents in the four sub-districts were affected by the flooding.

North Samarinda Sub-district was the worst-affected by the flooding, with 1,671 homes inundated and 13,896 residents impacted by it, he pointed out.
