(In) West Java, in terms of transmission risk, we have the highest risk with a population of 50 million because COVID-19 is closely related to (population) density.
Bandung, W Java (ANTARA) - West Java Governor M Ridwan Kamil has said the province has the highest risk of COVID-19 transmission due to the large population size of 50 million and density.

“(In) West Java, in terms of transmission risk, we have the highest risk with a population of 50 million because COVID-19 is closely related to (population) density. We have the highest potential (for transmission risk),” Kamil, popularly known as Kang Emil, said in a meeting with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in Bandung, West Java, on Tuesday.

The provincial administration has been conducting a routine coordination meeting with 27 districts/cities during the past four months to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

“We have conducted the meeting every Monday over the past four months. We have 2,900 positive cases left, 4,400 patients have recovered. The total population (in West Java) is 50 million, we have the fifth largest population in the country,” the Governor informed.

Among the best decisions taken to contain COVID-19 transmission in West Java was the implementation of large-scale social restrictions (PSBB), as instructed by President Jokowi, Kang Emil remarked.

“We imposed this PSBB across the province. This was the most massive decision: to control the movement of 50 million people in 27 districts/cities. With the large-scale social restrictions across the province, you can see that the graphic of (COVID-19) reproduction could be maintained below one percent,” he elaborated.

According to Emil, his administration could use President Jokowi's “theory of gas and brake” to contain coronavirus transmission in West Java.

“This has made hospital occupancy in West Java reach just 31 percent. In West Java, of the total 2,900 (COVID-19 positive cases), 70 percent are asymptomatic, hence, only 30 percent of the positive cases are being treated (at the hospital),” he pointed out.

As of Tuesday, West Java has recorded 7,599 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 4,444 recoveries and 228 deaths. (INE)
