"The cooperation is directed at producing raw material for cement production from B3 (toxic and hazardous waste) in the form of fly ash obtained from the burning of coal at PLTU Bolok's boiler,"Kupang, E Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) - State electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) is cooperating with PT Sarana Agra Gemilang (SAG) to produce cement from toxic, hazardous waste from its thermal power plant (PLTU) in Bolok, Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara.
To this effect, PLN Manager for the Timor Generation Unit Didik inked a memorandum of understanding with PT SAG General Manager Wawan Sunawan at the office of PLTU Bolok on Tuesday.
"The cooperation is directed at producing raw material for cement production from B3 (toxic and hazardous waste) in the form of fly ash obtained from the burning of coal at PLTU Bolok's boiler," he explained.
PT SAG, the cooperation partner of cement manufacturer PT Semen Kupang, will manage fly ash, solid waste produced from the burning of coal, at the power plant to produce cement to meet the demand in East Nusa Tenggara Province.
Didik is upbeat about PT SAG utilizing the fly ash at PLTU Bolok in accordance with one of its missions to run its environment-friendly businesses.
"By doing so, the impact of the power plant's waste on the environment can be managed properly, while on the other hand, the cement can be used for development in East Nusa Tenggara," he stated.
Meanwhile, in a written statement, Sunawan spoke of having secured a permit for the management of fly ash at PLTU Bolok.
The waste from units 1 and 2 of the power plant can be utilized as raw materials for the production of local cement of international quality, he added.
