The MPR Annual Session has high position as state administrative convention to complete constitutional rules in the practice of statehood
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Bambang Soesatyo has stated the MPR Annual Session may seem nothing more than ceremonial agenda but it is of great significance for state institutions.

"The MPR Annual Session has high position as state administrative convention to complete constitutional rules in the practice of statehood," he said while opening the MPR Annual Session 2020 at the parliament building here on Friday.

The MPR Annual Session is of great significance for state institutions, serves as a forum to uphold the people's sovereignty, and build a means of communication to grow the people's confidence through reports on the implementation of each state institution's constitutional authority and tasks as mandated by the 1945 Constitution.

On the other hand, the MPR Annual Session also serves as a means to boost democracy that ensures the constitutional rights of the Indonesian citizens to have access to information on the realization of state institutions' tasks in accordance with the mandate of the constitution, he said.

"Also it is likely to serve as a means for the community to evaluate the implementation of the 1945 Constitution, and the realization of check and balance principles to create control and balance mechanism in the country's administrative system," he said.

"Hence, state administrative convention which is constitutionally stipulated in article 151 paragraph (2) of the MPR's Regulation No. 1/2019 on the MPR's Code of Conduct is nothing more than ceremonial agenda," he said.
