This is to answer the importance of enhancing cooperation among predominantly Muslim countries in the world in fighting against radicalism and extremism as well as in maintaining world peace
Jakarta (ANTARA) - People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Chairman Bambang Soesatyo put forth a proposal to create a World Advisory Council to intensify cooperation among predominantly Muslim nations in thwarting radicalism and extremism.

"When the MPR leadership paid recent working visits to Saudi Arabia and Morocco, they had suggested the formation of a World Advisory Council," Soesatyo remarked during a prelude to the MPR Annual Session 2020 at the Parliament Building here on Friday.

Such a council is believed to aid in fostering relations among predominantly Muslim nations to address the challenges of terrorism, radicalism, and extremism, he affirmed.

"This will help to give due importance to enhancing cooperation among predominantly Muslim countries in the world in fighting against radicalism and extremism as well as in maintaining world peace," he stated.

Soesatyo noted that the Saudi and Moroccan governments had extended a warm welcome to the proposal, and to this end, the MPR will invite Arab, European, and African nations to partake in the creation of the World Advisory Council.

The endeavors to create a harmonious and civilized Islamic world order is of key importance for Muslim and predominantly Muslim nations to do so, he remarked.

The problems frequently encumbering Muslim countries are economic disparities, poverty, slow pace of development, ignorance of human rights, and nuclear crisis threatening humanity, he affirmed.

"The problems can be settled through the involvement of all parties through international, inter-sectoral, and inter-governmental and non-governmental institution cooperation," he affirmed.

Hence, Soesatyo echoed MPR’s optimism that the World Advisory Council would be able to serve as a platform to exchange views and experiences in addressing problems facing by Muslims worldwide. Related news: Build narrative of harmony to stamp out radicalism: VP Ma'ruf
