I will not tolerate them
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) cautioned Indonesia's law enforcers against potentially becoming state enemies if proven to have taken undue advantage of their position to derive benefits from businesspersons, executive officers, and community members.

"I will not tolerate them," he told participants of a virtual conference on the National Action for Corruption Eradication that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) had organized at the Bogor Presidential Palace on Wednesday.

President Jokowi pointed that the law enforcers and supervisors that misused laws and regulations to pressurize businesspersons, executive officers, and community members to act in their favor would be detrimental to the country's national development programs.

The head of state did concede to the presence of overlapping regulations that had turned out to be loopholes to likely be used for manipulating businesspersons, executive officers, and community members.

In addressing the problem, the government has made persistent endeavors to synchronize regulations, and to this end, the president has welcomed those providing inputs on overlapping regulations.

The government has also applied a national strategy for corruption prevention on the basis of Presidential Regulation Number 54 of 2018 by focusing on permit and commerce rules, state finance, as well as law enforcement and bureaucratic reform.

In his remarks, KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri told the participants that the anti-graft agency's preventive measures had resulted in optimizing locally generated incomes to nearly Rp80.9 trillion and saving the state potential financial losses to the tune of up to Rp10.4 trillion.
