The number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia was quite limited in the wake of the imposition of large-scale social restrictions (PSBB) and application of travel bans in several countries.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The number of tourist arrivals in Indonesia rose slightly by 0.95 percent to touch 159,760 in July 2020, from 158,256 recorded a month earlier, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) stated.

"The number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia was quite limited in the wake of the imposition of large-scale social restrictions (PSBB) and application of travel bans in several countries," BPS Chief Suharyanto noted during a virtual press conference here on Tuesday.

Among the designated entry points in Indonesia, the Soekarno-Hatta Airport, west of Jakarta, recorded the highest rise in the number of tourist arrivals, with 3,119 tourists, followed by the Sam Ratulangi Airport in Manado, North Sulawesi, with 699 tourists.

In comparison with June 2020, the number of tourists arriving in Indonesia through airports rose by 176.71 percent in July this year, he remarked.

The Soekarno-Hatta Airport recorded a 243.12-percent hike in the number of tourist arrivals; followed by the Sam Ratulangi Airport, with an increase of 159.55 percent; and the Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali, with a rise of 60 percent.

However, on an average, a 100-percent drop was recorded in the number of tourist arrivals via the Adisucipto Airport in Yogyakarta, Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport in Riau, and Sultan Badarudin II Airport in South Sumatra.

Cumulatively, the number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia during the January-July 2020 period reached 3.25 million, declining 64.64 percent, from 9.18 million during the corresponding period last year.
