"Of all sub-sectors, the NTP in August 2020 recorded an increase, except for horticulture and livestock," BPS Head Suhariyanto stated during a virtual broadcast press conference in Jakarta, Tuesday.
Suhariyanto attributed the rise in NTP in August 2020 to an increase in the price index for agricultural production, while the price index for consumer goods and services that households acquire, use, or pay for consumption experienced a decline despite the price index for agricultural production purposes increasing.
The increase in NTP in August 2020 was influenced by the rise in NTP in three agricultural sub-sectors: the food crops sub-sector, by 0.45 percent, the people's plantation sub-sector, by 2.81 percent; and the fisheries sub-sector by 0.31 percent.
Meanwhile, NTP in the two other sub-sectors experienced a decline: the horticultural crops sub-sector recording a 1.98-percent decline and the animal husbandry sub-sector registering a drop of 1.31 percent.
As is known, NTP is a price comparison received by farmers at the price paid by farmers.
NTP is an indicator to access the level of ability or purchasing power of farmers in rural areas. NTP also indicates the terms of trade of agricultural products with goods and services consumed as well as for production costs.
