Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Central Jakarta Police have seized 1.1 kg of drugs from four suspected drug couriers in three different places around the capital city this week.

Three of the four suspected drug couriers were operating under the guise of app-based ojek (motorcycle taxi) drivers, while the fourth, a woman, was nabbed from her apartment, said head of Central Jakarta Police's Drug Investigation Unit, Adjunct Commissioner Jordan, on Tuesday.

The first three suspects, identified by their initials as AR, AJ, and KA, were apprehended in Koja, North Jakarta, and Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, while the woman, identified as R, was nabbed in West Jakarta, he informed.

Police seized four packets of crystal methamphetamine, weighing 550 grams, from AR, who was nabbed in Koja, and 25 grams of crystal meth from AJ and KA, who were arrested in the Jagakarsa neighborhood.

AJ told investigators that he had just delivered a drug package to R at her apartment unit, following which, 600 grams of crystal meth and 58 ecstasy pills were found in her possession, Jordan said.

While the suspects have insisted that they were only couriers delivering small packets of crystal meth, the police believe that they have delivered drug packages six times.

They have been placed under custody for further investigation, Jordan added.

Indonesia remains under serious threat from drug dealers who perceive it as a potential market. The value of the drug trade in the country is estimated to have reached nearly least Rp66 trillion.

Users of crystal methamphetamine, narcotics, marijuana, and other types of addictive drugs transcend communities, and socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.

With drug kingpins smuggling and trading drugs in the country over the past few decades, the Indonesian government has continued to apply harsh punitive action against them.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo has even issued shoot-at-sight orders against drug kingpins.

However, this has failed to deter drug traffickers. They continue to treat Indonesia as one of their main markets, even as Indonesian law enforcers keep the fight going against them. (INE)
