Of course, heavy sanctions are waiting for them.Jakarta (ANTARA) - Four personnel of the Southeast Sulawesi provincial police who performed a low-speed maneuver on a helicopter to disperse a rally in the provincial capital of Kendari are facing heavy sanctions, said police.
The policemen, who are being interrogated, will soon attend a disciplinary and code of ethics hearing, during which, their sanctions will be determined, spokesperson for the provincial police, Senior Commissioner La Ode Proyek, said on Thursday.
"Of course, heavy sanctions are waiting for them," he remarked.
The sanctions may come in the form of suspended rank promotion, written warning, assignment in a special place for 21 days, or dismissal from police, he said.
A preliminary investigation has found the chopper’s pilot, co-pilot, and two technicians allegedly performed a low-speed maneuver flight to disperse demonstrators. There had been no regulation from the national police chief justifying such an action and the men had received no instructions from their superiors to disperse the rally, investigators said.
"The standing procedure to disperse a rally is contained in the regulation of the national police chief (regulation) number 1 of 2009. There are six stages to disperse a rally. If they (police personnel) do not follow the stages, they will be considered violating the standard procedure," Proyek said.
During a recent meeting with Commission II of the House of Representatives, national police chief General Idham Azis had denounced the maneuver flight and said he wanted to slap the personnel for tarnishing the police's image. (INE)
