Banda Aceh, Aceh (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo issued a decree discharging Aceh Governor for the 2017-2022 term Irwandi Yusuf, who is serving a jail term in a graft case, Aceh Provincial Legislative Assembly (DPRA) Deputy Chairman I Dalimi stated.

"On August 12, I looked at (the presidential) decree in the (working) room of the Deputy Chairman III of the DPRA," Dalimi stated here on Thursday.

However, the DPRA has yet to process the decree it had received or even prepare the agenda of its plenary meeting to follow up on the decree.

Dalimi admitted to being unaware of DPRA’s future steps to follow up on the decree. In fact, the DPRA should immediately announce and read it out in a plenary session after receiving it.

"The question is why the institution has not followed it up," he emphasized.

Under article 23, paragraph (1), letter d of Law No. 11 of 2006 on the Aceh Government, the DPRA is authorized to propose the appointment or dismissal of a governor or vice governor to the Indonesian president through the home affairs minister.

Yusuf was discharged from the Aceh governor’s post after being found guilty of involvement in a graft case pertaining to the Aceh special autonomous fund (DOKA) for 2018.

The Supreme Court has sentenced Yusuf to seven years' imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rp300 million or an additional three months in jail.

Yusuf is serving jail term at the Sukamiskin correctional facility in Bandung, West Java.
