Up till now, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police have named 131 suspects.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Metropolitan Police have named 131 persons as suspects over their alleged involvement in violent rallies against the job creation law in the Indonesian capital.

“Up till now, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police have named 131 suspects,” chief of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Inspector General Nana Sudjana, said here on Monday.

They have been named suspects for allegedly causing chaos and clashing with police personnel during rallies held on October 8 and October 13, 2020, he informed.

He said 69 of the 131 suspects have been taken into custody.

The suspects are mostly high school students along with university students and unemployed persons, he added.

“Most of the suspects are high school students. There are also university students and unemployed persons (who have been) named suspects. The high school students come from vocational schools,” he continued.

The suspects were involved in “anarchic acts”, including vandalizing the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry building, destroying police cars in Pejompongan and a police post, and resorting to violence against personnel from the Special Crime Investigation Directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police and the Tangerang City Metro Police, he informed.

The suspects have been charged with violating Article 212 of the penal code on resisting security personnel, Article 218 on violating the ban on crowds, Article 170 on violence against people and goods, and Article 406 on vandalism.
