Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) - One student from the Attamimy Islamic Boarding School died and another went missing after they were swept away in a flash flood at the Tibu Atas Waterfall, West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), on Tuesday.

The two students — Lalu Imam Baihaqi (18) and Samsul Irawan (17) — were part of a 33-member group from the boarding school that was vacationing near the waterfall in Buwun Sejati village, West Lombok, officials said.

When the flash flood struck, two of their schoolmates were swimming near the waterfall. Hearing their cries for help, Baihaqi, Irawan, and another student rushed to the rescue. Baihaqi and Irawan were swept away, while the other three students managed to survive.

A joint search and rescue team found Baihaqi’s body, while Irawan remained missing, Nanang Sigit PH, head of the Mataram Search and Rescue Office, confirmed here on Tuesday.

Both were residents of Praya sub-district, Central Lombok district, NTB province, he said.

"The three students who survived the flood were immediately taken to the nearest health center for treatment," Sigit added.
