According to an official statement issued on Sunday, Prabowo arrived at Brussels International Airport on Saturday evening local time. He was welcomed by François Delhaye, the Belgian Foreign Ministry's Director General for Asia and Oceania, and Indonesian Ambassador to Belgium, Andri Hadi.
Members of the Indonesian diaspora gathered at his hotel in Brussels to greet the president.
While in Brussels, President Prabowo is expected to meet European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa to discuss strengthening strategic cooperation between Indonesia and the EU.
He is also scheduled to meet King Philippe at the Royal Palace of Laeken. The meeting is seen as an opportunity to expand and deepen bilateral ties between Indonesia and Belgium, with discussions expected to cover new areas of collaboration.
Several Indonesian cabinet ministers arrived in Brussels ahead of Prabowo, including Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Investment and Downstreaming Rosan Roeslani, and Trade Minister Budi Santoso.
Following his visit to Belgium, Prabowo will travel to France to attend the Bastille Day commemoration on July 14 at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron.
