"A number of houses and inns have been damaged, a suspension bridge has collapsed, and a number of livestock have been killed, but there have been no human fatalities," Pamilu H Hutagaol, head of the Bahorok Police, said on Wednesday.
He said Bahorok was struck by a flash flood at midnight, following incessant heavy rain accompanied by lightning, which caused the Landak River to overflow. The water did not recede until 2 a.m. local time.
The flash flood affected tourist areas along the Landak riverbank, including the Landak River and Namo Samsah in Batumandi hamlet, Samperaya village, Salang Pangeran VIII Pulo Pisang, and Timbang Lawan village.
Two hectares of oil palm plantations were also laid waste as the flash flood damaged palm trees.
In the meantime, floods and landslides struck parts of Banyumas district, Central Java province, since Monday evening, according to the local Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD). Four persons died, while one man was reported missing in their aftermath.
"The landslide in Sumpiuh sub-district in Bogangin village hit a resident's house and claimed the life of one person," head of BPBD Banyumas, Titik Puji Astuti, said on Tuesday.
Floods and landslides triggered by torrential rains also affected the sub-districts of Sumpiuh, Gumelar, Lumbir, Purwojati, Kebasen, and Ajibarang on Monday evening. (INE)
