Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta government has again extended Large-Scale Social Distancing (PSBB) measures for the transition period towards a healthy, safe, and productive society for a 14-day period from Nov 23 to Dec 6, 2020.

Extension of the transitional PSBB was in accordance with Jakarta Governor’s Decree Number 1100 of 2020 as a precautionary measure against a spike in COVID-19 cases, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan stated here on Sunday evening.

"The Jakarta government can extend or implement an emergency brake policy if there is a significant increase in the number of cases or an alarming rate of transmission that endangers health services," he explained.

Based on epidemiological data during the implementation of PSBB in the last two weeks, the COVID-19 outbreak in Jakarta was still under control and headed safe.

However, the decision was taken by the provincial government since the daily report of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Jakarta had reached a new record, at 1,579 cases, on Saturday (Nov 21).

The governor has sought continued vigilance from all parties and utmost discipline in implementing health protocols.

"This is a joint endeavor. We emphasize again to stay disciplined in applying health protocols. COVID-19 is still there," Baswedan noted.

Jakarta recorded a surge of 4.95 percent in the number of active cases over the past 14 days, from 8,026 on Nov 7 to 8,444 on Nov 21.

However, in terms of the percentage, the number of active cases in Jakarta continued to decline every two weeks, specifically 6.7 percent on Nov 21, from 7.2 percent on Nov 7, 12.5 percent on Oct 24, 15.5 percent on Oct 10, and 18.7 percent on Sept 26. The percentage of active cases is the ratio between the total active cases compared to the total accumulated positive confirmed cases.

The capital city's recovery rate also shows an increasing trend, at 91.3 percent, on Nov 21, 2020, as compared to 78.9 percent on Sept 26, 82.3 percent on Oct 10, 85.4 percent on Oct 24, and 90.7 percent on Nov 7.

Its COVID-19 mortality rate showed a decline of 0.1 percent to 2 percent, with the previous figure tending to be stable, at 2.1 percent, on Nov 7 and Oct 24, 2020. This mortality rate shows a downward trend as compared to the earlier two weeks, at 2.4 percent on Sept 26 and 2.2 percent on Oct 10.

The percentage of total confirmed cases shows a slight increase in the last two weeks. On Nov 21, Jakarta's confirmed COVID-19 case tally stood at 125,822, an increase of 11.62 percent, from 111,201 cases on Nov 7.

"It is time for us to be more vigilant and disciplined in the application of health protocols. This means that transmission still occurs, and we must be more vigilant," the governor stated. Related news: As infections spike, Jakarta prioritizes health over recovery
