Padang, (ANTARA) - The National Police's Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) has named West Sumatra gubernatorial candidate Mulyadi as a suspect in a case pertaining to violation of campaigning schedules for the upcoming regional elections.

The West Sumatra governor candidate nominated by the Democrat Party and the National Mandate Party (PAN) was named a suspect after Bareskrim investigated the case, chief of the public information bureau under the public relations division of the National Police, Brigadier General Awi Setiyono, said in a written statement released on Saturday.

“It is true that after an investigation was conducted yesterday, West Sumatra governor candidate Mulyadi has been named a suspect (in the case)," he confirmed.

He said police will summon Mulyadi on Monday (December 7, 2020) for questioning.

He said the chief of the Democratic Party's provincial executive board in West Sumatra is suspected of conducting election campaigns outside the specified schedules.

"The violation of campaign schedules is based on Article 187 paragraph 1 of Law No. 6 of 2020," Setiyono informed.

Bareskrim conducted the investigation after the Center for Integrated Law Enforcement agreed to categorize the case as an election crime, he said. (INE)
