Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s active COVID-19 caseload touched 15.08 percent of the total positive cases as of December 13, 2020, coordinator of the expert team and spokesperson for the COVID-19 handling task force, Prof. Wiku Adisasmito, said.

“The figure is higher than the highest number of active cases in November. This is an alarm for us because it is not expected,” he said during a virtual discussion entitled 'Long breath for the COVID-19 handling’ here on Friday.

The national active cases averaged 12.8 percent last month, with the highest increase of 13.78 percent.

"The average active cases have reached 14.39 percent. The figure is high for us," Adisasmito noted.

As per data, the single-day death toll from COVID-19 was recorded at 142 on December 17, 2020, bringing to 19,390 the cumulative death toll from the coronavirus since the country announced the first confirmed cases in March this year.

The cumulative death toll represented 3 percent of the COVID-19 confirmed patients, Adisasmito said.

On the other hand, data from United to Fight COVID-19 showed an upward trend in public compliance with the health protocols. However, the number of active cases remained high.

In the past week, the Task Force for COVID-19 Handling monitored 17 million people spread across 6.5 million points in 34 provinces. The result of the monitoring showed a positive development at the district and city levels in people observing the rule on wearing masks.

Despite the positive development, Adisasmito did not deny public behavior changes every time.

Thus, he added, common resilience is the key to lowering the number of COVID-19 cases. (INE)
