Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, invited China’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Wang Yi, to Lake Toba in North Sumatra on the sidelines of his official visit to Indonesia.

Yi stayed in Indonesia from January 12 to 13, 2021, as part of a series of visits to ASEAN countries. During his visit, he accompanied Pandjaitan to several historical sites around Lake Toba and enjoyed the views of the hills on the Caldera.

In a post on his Instagram handle (@)luhut.pandjaitan on Wednesday, Pandjaitan revealed that he had invited Wang Yi to his homeland in Lake Toba area several times.

“Several times on my trips to China, I often invited him to visit my homeland, where Lake Toba is located, because I know that Mr. Wang Yi has a hobby of hiking and indeed has long had plans to see the potential for tourism here. Today, I especially accompany him and his delegation to enjoy the panoramic view of the hills in the Caldera and visit several historical places around Lake Toba,” he explained.

Pandjaitan said that he and Yi also discussed investment cooperation, several strategic projects, tourism, and the national economic recovery.

“I conveyed my hope regarding a strong commitment to implement the bilateral strategic agreement between the two countries; before, this afternoon, Mr. Wang Yi met and heard firsthand President Jokowi's hopes for the cooperation of the two friendly countries,” he revealed.

He also expressed his appreciation to have had the opportunity to witness the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in several strategic areas between the two countries.

He said he was gratified to have been entrusted with and directly involved with the task of developing the potential of his homeland and its designation as a super-priority tourism destination.

"I hope for these small efforts to bring great benefits and blessings for the Indonesian people, especially for the people of Toba Samosir who have always had pride and love for their homeland," he remarked. (INE)
