I handed them to the DVI team for further identification or process.Jakarta (ANTARA) - The search and rescue (SAR) team has collected 17 more body bags from the site of the Sriwijaya Air plane crash and handed them to the National Police’s Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team for identification.
"I handed them to the DVI team for further identification or process," operations director of the National Search and Rescue Agency (BMKG), Rasman, said at the Jakarta International Container Terminal’s pier 2 in Tanjung Priok in North Jakarta on Saturday.
The SAR team also put small bits of debris from the Sriwijaya Air plane into three bags and put documents and clothes in one bag, he informed.
The debris has been handed to the National Committee for Transportation Safety (KNKT) for further examination, he added.
Earlier, at 11.45 a.m. on Saturday, Basarnas received seven fragments of clothes that are believed to belong to passengers of the Sriwijaya Air flight from the Sea and Coast Guard (KPLP).
As of Friday, the SAR team has collected 272 bags of human remains, 45 bags of small debris, and 50 bags of large debris.
Basarnas has decided to extend the search operation by three more days until Monday (January 19, 2021).
The Sriwijaya Air flight SJ-182, bearing the registration number PK-CLC, lost contact on January 9, 2020 at 2:40 p.m. shortly after take-off. It crashed between Lancang Island and Laki Island, Seribu Islands, off North Jakarta's coast. The flight was traveling on the Jakarta-Pontianak route.
Based on the manifest, the aircraft, which was produced in 1994, was carrying 62 persons: 50 passengers and 12 crew members. The passengers comprised 40 adults, seven children, and three babies. (INE)
