The construction of flats will cost Rp4.16 trillion for 9,799 units.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Public Works and People's Housing plans to build 9,799 flats across Indonesia at a cost of Rp4.16 trillion this year.

“The construction of flats will cost Rp4.16 trillion for 9,799 units,” director general of housing at the ministry, Khalawi Abdul Hamid, said during a hearing with Commission V of the House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta on Monday.

The flats comprise 5,158 new flats, or 131 towers, and 4,641 flats, or 111 towers, built based on a multi-year contract (MYC), he said.

"Of the total of 9,799 flats, 111 units have been built based on MYC. Thus, the number of new flats is only 131 towers," he informed.

Of the total homes, there will be 865 rented flats for the low income group, 1,448 rented flats for workers, 2,385 flats for civil servants, and 468 units for military and police personnel, he said.

A total of 1,875 flats will be used as dormitories for education institutions and 2,758 flats will be meant for institutes of higher learning, he added.

Last year, the ministry built 823 flats, or 70.28 percent of its target, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which prompted it to refocus its budget on the health sector.
