Ternate (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan and his deputy will visit North Maluku to review facilities and infrastructure at the Integrated Marine and Fisheries Center (SKPT) on March 15, 2021.

At the upcoming work visit, the minister will evaluate the preparedness of facilities and infrastructure for developing the SKPT and the National Fish Barn (LIN) in the Sula Islands Regency and South Halmahera Regency.

Furthermore, Pandjaitan will evaluate the readiness for Sail Tidore to be held on September 2021, Abdullah Assagaf, acting as head of the Maritime and Fisheries Office of North Maluku, stated in Ternate on Saturday.

Four SKPTs are proposed as part of the LIN program: the SKPT in Morotai Island to cover the East Halmahera region; SKPT in Sofifi encompassing the towns in Tidore Islands, Ternate, and Central Halmahera; SKPT in Halses; and the SKPT in Sula Islands and Taliabu Islands.

Meanwhile, only two SKPTs, in South Halmahera and Sula Islands, will be prioritized in the development accorded in the LIN program, Assagaf noted.

“The LIN program will be focused on two regencies aimed at achieving the target until 2021 as Minister Panjaitan has requested. We can witness the progress. However, the regional administration of North Maluku will continue the development of SKPT in four regions,” he remarked.

In accordance with the schedule, Minister Panjaitan will arrive in Ternate on March 15. He will thereafter check the facilities at Bacan and the city-port in Wai Nin before reviewing the four SKPTs.

“The four SKPTs operate 11 fisheries ports. The minister and officials will observe the infrastructure that can potentially be developed, either its dock or fish cold storage. The budget allocated for its development has reached Rp1 trillion, and Alhamdulillah (Praise be to God) it has been approved,” Assagaf stated.
