Nias, N Sumatra (ANTARA) - The search and rescue (SAR) agency in North Sumatra on Wednesday launched a search mission to locate two fishermen from South Nias district, who went missing on March 21, 2021.

The two fishermen have been identified as Karasi Finowa'a (38) and Sudirman Bu'ulolo (33), Nias SAR Agency spokesperson Asanimu Waruwu informed.

They were residents of Hilindrasoraya village, Toma sub-district, South Nias district.

The two men reportedly went fishing in the waters off Somambawa Island at 7 a.m. local time on Sunday, but failed to return home by 5 p.m. the same day, making their families anxious, Waruwu said.

The two men did not return home on Tuesday either, he added.

"Their families are so worried about their safety because they have repeatedly failed to reach their mobile phones," Waruwu said.

The families of the two fishermen also initiated a search around the Somambawa waters, but failed to find them, he added.

They then reported the missing men to the village authorities and the Nias Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) and appealed to them to contact the SAR agency, he said.

"Shortly after receiving the report, we dispatched our personnel to search for the missing fishermen," he added. (INE)
