Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Development Planning Ministry/National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) is drafting a strategy to drive digital transformation to boost the utilization of digital technology and bolster growth of a sustainable and low-carbon economy (green economy).

The strategy contained in the Major Project of Digital Transformation also confirms the commitment of ministries and institutions to support the acceleration of expanded and increased access to digital infrastructures, utilization of resources in strategic sectors, and the enablers of digital transformation under the principles of digital sovereignty and self-reliance.

"This digital transformation is important in the context of economic transformation in accordance with the President's mandate to drive and accelerate it. We have also been instructed to see several regions that can serve as a pilot project to be replicated in other regions," Bappenas Chief Suharso Monoarfa stated at a multi-party meeting to discuss the major project of digital transformation under the endeavors to formulate the government's 2022 work plan in Jakarta on Thursday.

Monoarfa made assurance that under the strategy, planning and budgeting will be coordinated for development in 10 sub-major projects comprising access and infrastructure, government services, education, health, trade, rural issues, cooperatives and micro, small, and medium businesses, digitalization of social assistance, industry 4.0, public digital literacy, national digital resources, and cybersecurity.

"Several ministries/institutions will be involved in digital transformation. We want to see the extent to which ministries/institutions have confirmed to partake in the programs and their ceiling indicators and whether it converges with the program led by the Communication and Informatics Ministry. Ensure they will synchronize," he remarked.

Monoarfa noted that the major project of digital transformation covers the National Data Center (PDN) scheduled for completion in 2022 and Analogue Switch Off (ASO) serving as the mandate of Law No. 11 of 2020 on Job Creation Law and scheduled for completion in November 2022.

"The data center will be at the Communication and Informatics Ministry. All will be directed there, and that will be more efficient. For instance, (the government spends) Rp2.7 trillion on application maintenance per year. We must reduce it if we have a data center that is done altogether. There will be 2,700 consolidations of all data centers, and this will save Rp1 trillion per year. If it occurs, we will be able to save at least 10.8 trillion per year," he stated.
