UI's spokesperson, Amelita Lusia, concurrently the university's Information and Documentation Management Officer, noted in a press statement here on Saturday, that UI and the Central Information Commission had inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on implementing public information disclosure and strengthening human resources, organizations, and management.
Central Information Commission Chairman Gede Narayana remarked that the cooperation was forged to bolster the implementation of KIP in the field of education.
"This includes developing KIP mainstreaming in the higher education curriculum in order to create a culture of honesty, mutual cooperation, and justice in society," he affirmed.
Narayana is optimistic that the support from higher education would make it easier for the public to obtain transparent, accountable, and reliable information.
Apart from UI, the commission also established cooperation with seven other state universities: Padjadjaran University, Brawijaya University, Udayana University, Malang University, Lampung University, Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB), and Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology.
Secretary General of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics Mira Tayyiba stressed that KIP was paramount to realizing a digitally capable society, especially in dealing with hoaxes.
"I really laud the cooperation between KIP and the eight state universities because the government cannot work alone in overcoming hoax and misinformation issues," Tayyiba emphasized.
"We must work together through collaboration to create a digitally capable society that understands the ethical, security, and cultural sides of their interactions in cyberspace," she explained.
The Central Information Commission is an independent institution established under Law Number 14 of 2008 to conduct and oversee the implementation of KIP in Indonesia.
KIP encompasses the services of public agencies in offering and serving requests for information in a swift, timely, low-cost and proportionate manner, as well as in simple ways.
The UI has, until now, offered services for public information requested via letters, WhatsApp applications, email, and telephone, as well as provided services at the Information and Public Service Center (SIPP) in the Ground Floor of the Integrated Student Service Center Building at the UI campus in Depok, West Java.
SIPP services are offered free and available every Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. local time. Related news: Indonesian, Australian universities bolster research collaboration
