We thank the chiefs of RTs (neighborhood associations) for their participation in encouragingJakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government on Wednesday began rolling out door-to-door COVID-19 vaccinations targeting at least 19 thousand citizens.
"Door-to-door vaccination is good. We (will) come to (the homes of) those willing to get vaccinated soon. Once again, door-to-door vaccination is very good. We thank the chiefs of RTs (neighborhood associations) for their participation in encouraging their residents to get vaccinated,” President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said while virtually observing door-to-door vaccinations of junior and senior high school students on Wednesday.
The door-to-door vaccination drive is targeting at least 19 thousand people, he informed.
“Today, 49 thousand children will get vaccinated. They comprise 15 thousand junior high school students, 15 thousand senior high school students, and also 19 thousand through door-to-door vaccination drive,” Widodo said.

The vaccinations will be conducted at 32 different locations spread across 15 districts and cities in 14 provinces in the country, he added.
While observing door-to-door vaccinations in RT 06/RW 07 in Cijantung, East Jakarta, State Intelligence Board (BIN) Deputy I, Major General Agus Yusni, said medical workers from BIN's medical intelligence were serving as vaccinators for the drive.
“We come to each of the houses to see residents willing to get vaccinations. In RT 06, some 400 residents are willing to get vaccinated, comprising 200 residents who have been vaccinated and 200 residents who will be vaccinated,” he added.
With Indonesia’s second COVID-19 wave affecting a significant number of children, the government has been quick to decide on opening vaccinations for the 12-17 age group.
One out of every eight Indonesians exposed to COVID-19 is under 18 years old, and children fall in the category that is at risk of succumbing to the coronavirus, the data shows. One of every 83 Indonesians dying of COVID-19 is a child, the government data shows.
