Jakarta (ANTARA) - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno has invited the Muslim Students' Association (HMI) to collaborate in order to reinvigorate the tourism and creative economy sector in Indonesia during the times of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Uno affirmed that HMI, with its quality human resources, has potential to serve as an agent of change to boost the tourism and creative economy sector in the country.

"Today, we meet with friends from HMI because we need to collaborate. We (the ministry) want to be an active facilitator (for HMI), and as a form of adaptation, we also push HMI to be an agent of change, an agent (to promote) CHSE (Cleanliness, Health, Safety, and Environmental Sustainability), and an agent to welcome a cleaner, healthier, safer, and a more sustainable new era of tourism," Uno stated during the webinar hosted by PP HMI to discuss the future of Indonesian tourism in the COVID-19 era on Wednesday (14 July).

The minister also encouraged HMI members to support the development of tourist villages, the minister said in a statement.

"I am confident that the HMI can support the development of tourist villages because quite a few HMI members are experienced entrepreneurs. (In addition), there is no need to question the personal quality of HMI members, and that is most important," he affirmed.

Uno also drew attention to the three main pillars of innovation, adaptation, and collaboration as the basis of tourism and creative economy recovery. Innovation comprised a 360-degree approach and the application of big data, adaptation through implementation of the CHSE safety tourism protocol, and collaboration with all stakeholders. Only when the recovery process is successful can the tourism and creative economy again create job opportunities for the people.

Deputy for Human Resources and Institutional affairs of the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry Wisnu B. Tarunajaya expressed hope that the HMI would always be supportive and participate in the development of the tourism and creative economy sector.

"I am optimistic that the HMI would always support our tourism and creative economy, especially by supporting tourist villages," Tarunajaya stated.

Head of Tourism and Cultural Affairs of PB HMI Sanipar expressed gratitude to the ministry for placing trust in HMI to support the tourism and creative economy aspects.

"I hope that we (the HMI) can always support the government to further develop and improve tourism and creative economy (in Indonesia)," he remarked.
