Garut (ANTARA) - Police in Garut District, West Java, involved several barbers in a free haircuts program accompanied by distribution of food packages to residents affected by the implementation of public activity restrictions (PPKM) in the area.

"We combine our patrol and free hair cut program with the distribution of social assistance to people affected or in need during the PPKM level 4," Garut Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Wirdhanto Hadicaksono stated during the free haircut and social assistance distribution event at the Ciateul Sports Building, Garut, West Java, on Friday (July 23) night.

Hadicaksono informed that the free haircut event would last for three days or until the PPKM level 4 ended on July 25, 2021. The event will take place at night, he added.

The free haircut event and social assistance for the community aimed to help those involved in running barbershops that had to stop operating during PPKM since they were not categorized as an essential business.

"At this event, we invite fellow local Garut barbers, who cannot work during PPKM, to partake in this event," he remarked.

Hadicaksono explained that several barbers partaking in the program were assigned to serve residents looking for a haircut. The residents would then receive the food package after the haircut.

"Every day, we will allocate 100 social assistance packages. After getting a haircut for free, we will provide them social assistance," he stated.

Head of the Regional Coordinator of the Garut Barbershop (PPRG) Eldi remarked that the free haircut event, organized by the Garut Police, had helped ease the burden on barbershop business actors, who had to cease operating on account of PPKM.

Eldi is optimistic that the government would soon end the PPKM policy to restore normalcy in barbershop businesses by continuing to implement health protocols.

"This program is beneficial for us since we had no income during the two weeks of PPKM," he asserted.

Ujang, a dealer who received the benefits of social assistance and free haircut, was admittedly pleased to receive the basic food package and get a free haircut.

"Apart from the free haircut, we can also get basic food assistance. Thank you very much," the resident stated happily.
