One of the teachers partaking in the event, Endang, from the State Special Needs School (SLBN) 04 Walang, noted in a written statement in Jakarta, Monday, that 82 students with special needs had registered to participate in the vaccination program.
However, two children did not take the vaccine due to high blood pressure and had received the COVID-19 vaccination earlier, she added.
Endang stated that COVID-19 vaccination was deemed necessary for all elements of society to build herd immunity amid the threat of the COVID-19 outbreak.
As a teacher, Endang is optimistic that the students of SLBN 04 Walang would remain healthy after receiving the first dose of the vaccine.
Endang is also sanguine that students with special needs would commence face-to-face learning activities at school after receiving the first dose of the vaccine.
Endang believes that the online learning process hinders the learning system for students with special needs amid the pandemic.
"These children with special needs experience difficulties in online learning, so they rely heavily on their parents," the teacher pointed out.
As of Sunday (August 1), based on the data, 82 thousand people received the first vaccine dose at all centers and mobile cars of the NasDem Peduli vaccination program in the DKI Jakarta area.
Head of the NasDem Party faction of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Wibi Andrino, informed that the second vaccine dose will be administered at the NasDem Peduli Vaccination Centers across DKI Jakarta from August 2 to August 29, 2021.
