Beyond being eco-friendly, the solar power plants in the Pertamina Group are also efficient since the electricity costs are cheaperJakarta (ANTARA) - PT Pertamina New Renewable Energy (PNRE), a sub-holding of state-run oil company PT Pertamina (Persero), has set a target to build 500-megawatt (MW) solar power plants at several operation locations of the Pertamina Group.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PNRE Dannif Danusaputro pointed to the construction of the solar power plants being conducted gradually since the end of 2020.
"Beyond being eco-friendly, the solar power plants in the Pertamina Group are also efficient since the electricity costs are cheaper," Danusaputro noted in his statement here on Monday.
PNRE has completed the construction of solar power plants at the Badak LNG Terminal, Dumai Refinery, Cilacap Refinery, Sei Mangkei special economic zone (KEK), as well as several gas stations.
Construction of the eco-friendly power plant infrastructure aligns with Pertamina Group's goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent in 2030.
Danusaputro explained that the installed 500 MW solar power plants would help to reduce carbon emissions by 630 thousand tons of carbon dioxide per year.
He believes this move is part of the Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) roadmap integrated within Pertamina's business to support efforts to address the impacts of climate change.
"New and renewable energy development, including solar power plants, is a future investment for everybody, including entrepreneurs. Energy transition is what the world needs at the moment to ensure a healthy environment through clean energy application," he emphasized.
Climate change is a global threat that has been studied by scientists. It refers to the phenomenon wherein the development of nations across the world is accompanied by a rise in global temperatures.
To this end, countries worldwide are scrambling to keep global temperatures from rising above 1.5 degrees Celsius through measures including the development of renewable energy infrastructure, such solar power plants.
