It is impossible for the government to work alone so it is collaborating with all elements of the community. We must build a national vaccination movement.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin has called for a national vaccination movement to help the country achieve its vaccination target quickly.

Such a vaccination movement must not merely depend on the government to achieve the target of administering 70 million COVID-vaccine doses in August this year, he said while visiting a vaccination center at Jaya Ancol Dream Land in North Jakarta on Saturday.

"It is impossible for the government to work alone so it is collaborating with all elements of the community. We must build a national vaccination movement," he said.

Indonesia is aiming to administer 70 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines per month from August 2021, he noted. Meanwhile, just 90 million vaccines have arrived in Indonesia in the first seven months of 2021, he pointed out.

"So the vaccinators must work hard," he said.

He said he believed if everyone in the nation works hand in hand, the vaccination rollout will strengthen in the country.

All elements of the community must cooperate and work hard to implement the national vaccination drive, the minister added.

The vaccination rollout must not merely be viewed as a government program, but must become a national movement, he stressed.

The government has continued to intensify vaccinations as part of efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19, he said.

Overall, Indonesia is seeking to vaccinate 208,265,720 citizens to build herd immunity against the coronavirus under the nationwide vaccination drive, which was launched on January 13, 2021. President Joko Widodo was the nation's first COVID-19 vaccine recipient.
