Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of the Indonesian Ulemas Council (MUI) Miftachul Akhyar sustained minor injuries after his car met with an accident on the Semarang-Solo toll road in Salatiga, Central Java on Thursday morning.

He was traveling to Surabaya, East Java when the accident occurred.

Akhyar was taken to the Regional General Hospital (RSUD) in Salatiga for treatment, MUI vice secretary general for information and communication section, Asrori S Karni, said.

"Alhamdulillah (Thank God), he is getting better. According to the information we have received from a doctor at RSUD Salatiga, he has been allowed to leave the hospital," he added.

The MUI chairman has continued his trip to Surabaya after receiving treatment at the hospital, he further said.

“He is on the way to Surabaya,” he stated.

Karni said the MUI chairman had left for Surabaya after quarantining for several days following his return from Egypt, where he had attended the 6th Fatwa International Conference.

Earlier in the day, chief of the public relations service of Central Java Provincial Police, Senior Commissioner Igbal Alqudusy, had said that the accident occurred when the Toyota Velllfire minivan carrying the MUI chief veered to the left to allow a truck to overtake it.

However, after the truck overtook the minivan, it veered sharply to the left and the driver suddenly hit the brakes, he said. As a result, the minivan rammed into the back of the truck, he added.
