We also invite other ministries, institutions, regional governments, state and private enterprises, such as Grab and Gojek, to collaborate with this programJakarta (ANTARA) - Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Arifin Tasrif unveiled a pilot project to convert motorcycles operating on fuel oil within the ministry's work units to electric models.
The program aims to accelerate implementation of the Battery-Based Electric Motor Vehicle (KBLBB) Program as well as the energy transition plan to produce clean energy.
“This conversion program can be a pioneer to create jobs and new enterprises as well as offer new skills to youth, such as students and garage technicians,” Tasrif remarked in his statement quoted here on Wednesday.
The KBLBB program, under the National Energy Grand Strategy, aims to produce 13 million electric motorcycles and 2.2 million electric cars by 2030.

These electric vehicles can potentially reduce fuel oil consumption by six million kiloliters per year and greenhouse gas emissions by 7.23 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent.
The minister lauded the effort and the collaboration between various parties, especially the Ministry of Transportation.
"We also invite other ministries, institutions, regional governments, state and private enterprises, such as Grab and Gojek, to collaborate with this program," he remarked.
Tasrif believes that boosting the utilization of electric vehicles should also be supported by the provision of clean energy-based electricity.

"We are targeting our renewable power plant to produce 38 gigawatts by 2030," he noted.
The conversion program aligns with Transportation Minister’s Regulation No. 65 of 2020 that dictates motorcycle modification activity wherein an old machine component using fuel oil is replaced with an electric motor component.
The conversion program will be implemented gradually from mid-August of 2021 until the end of November 2021.
In the early phase, the government is aiming to convert one hundred motorcycles in all of the Energy and Mineral Sources Ministry's work units within Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek).
