Students from nearby schools were also invited to the schools which hosted the vaccination programYogyakarta (ANTARA) - Since the middle of July this year, nine thousand of the 24 thousand students in Yogyakarta have been vaccinated against COVID-19, according to the COVID-19 task force.
"Vaccination programs for students had to be stopped once because the stock of vaccine was empty. But, we plan to continue (the program) next week," Heroe Poerwadi from Yogyakarta's COVID-19 task force said in Yogyakarta on Friday.
Student vaccinations will be accelerated in anticipation of the resumption of face-to-face learning, he informed.
"Vaccines used for students are indeed just Sinovac. As it happened, it was once out of stock so (the program) was pending. But because (we) have the stock again, (we will) continue the program," he said.
Vaccination programs for middle school students have been hosted in four schools -- Yogyakarta 5 State Middle School, Yogyakarta 6 State Middle School, Yogyakarta 8 State Middle School, and Yogyakarta Muhammadiyah 2 Middle School, he added.
"Students from nearby schools were also invited to the schools which hosted the vaccination program," Poerwadi said.
The vaccination programs were not only meant for Yogyakarta students, but also students from other regions who are pursuing an education in Yogyakarta, he added.
The vaccination capacity will continue to be pushed to reach the 75-percent vaccination rate target in Yogyakarta, he said. If possible, the task force is aiming to vaccinate all Yogyakarta residents by September this year, he added.
Meanwhile, head of disease prevention and control at the Yogyakarta Health Office, Yudiria Amelia, said that in addition to continuing vaccination programs for administering the first vaccine dose, the second dose would be administered to students who have already had their first shot.
"All students will be vaccinated. They have to be over 12 years old," she added.
