Given the very large number of Muslims in Indonesia, it is necessary to have a healthcare system that is in accordance with Islamic beliefs to help heal and maintain health
Jakarta (ANTARA) - A health service system that aligns with the Islamic faith is required in Indonesia on account of the large number of Muslims in the country, according to Vice President Ma'ruf Amin.

"Given the very large number of Muslims in Indonesia, it is necessary to have a healthcare system that is in accordance with Islamic beliefs to help heal and maintain health," the vice president stated while delivering a keynote address at the online congress of the Indonesian Islamic Health Efforts Council (MUKISI), here on Saturday.

Amin later noted that the sharia-based health service system was able to increase faith among Muslims to undergo treatment and avail health services.

In order to encourage the improvement of sharia health services in Indonesia, Amin encouraged the MUKISI to increase the number of sharia-certified hospitals.

The vice president lauded the establishment of 25 hospitals, with sharia status, and the progress of 42 hospitals currently in the preparation stage for securing sharia certificates.

"I am seeing this as a prospective outcome, considering that MUKISI currently has more than 500 Islamic hospitals spread across Indonesia," Amin stated.

In 2020, the MUKISI had targeted to establish 100 sharia-compliant hospitals. However, this target had not been achieved owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Nevertheless, I laud the MUKISI for consistently providing facilities and assistance, both directly and online to hospitals targeted to obtain the sharia status," he remarked.

As an association of Islamic hospitals in Indonesia, Amin has encouraged MUKISI to streamline services and the sharia health system in Indonesia.

"I am optimistic that the MUKISI would be able to continue to bring together and integrate the potential of sharia hospitals in all regions, so they can continue to encourage efforts to increase sharia health services in Indonesia," Amin stated.
