Bekasi, W Java (ANTARA) - Sixty-eight mentally ill people in Bekasi city, West Java were provided identification (ID) numbers and their electronic ID card data was recorded by the local government.

"The Bekasi city government continues to strive to provide the best service for its citizens," head of the Bekasi City Population and Civil Registration Office (Disdukcapil), Taufiq Hidayat, said here on Saturday.

Officials carried out the ID number issuance service and electronic ID card recording by visiting residents experiencing difficulties in obtaining population administration.

The Disdukcapil of Bekasi city visited the Asih Abadi Movement Foundation on Jalan Lengkeng Number 210 RT 01/02, Bojong Menteng village, Rawalumbu district to provide the services.

"The program was held by visiting the people with mental illness. It was also our effort to bring services closer to residents," Hidayat said.

The issuance of the IDs was meant to show that people who have mental limitations are also entitled to receive facilities from the government, he explained.

Hidayat said he hoped that after obtaining ID numbers, the beneficiaries could immediately receive facilities from the government, including being registered for the national vaccination program.

"There are a total of 68 people with mental illness, all of whom are women. They have now been given an ID number and have recorded data for an electronic ID card. Hopefully, after having ID numbers, they can receive vaccinations and other health facilities from the government," he stated.

He assured that similar services would be carried out on a regular basis, with the main target being residents experiencing difficulties in obtaining population administration.

"Such as flood victims who lost their population administration documents, people with mental illness, and other vulnerable residents," he elaborated.
