The bill will later be brought to the second phase of deliberations at a plenary meetinJakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government and the House of Representatives (DPR) have agreed to bring the bill on ASEAN Agreement on Electronic Commerce to a plenary meeting for endorsement after completing the first phase of deliberations on Wednesday.
“After hearing the final views of mini factions of each DPR faction, we come to the conclusion that nine factions at the DPR Commission VI have agreed on the bill. The bill will later be brought to the second phase of deliberations at a plenary meeting to be passed into law,” chairman of Commission VI of the House, Faisol Riza, said.
However, the notes conveyed by the factions at the meeting will be an integral part of the decision, he added. Hopefully, the government will use the inputs as a reference to implement the law, he remarked.

Meanwhile, on behalf of the government, Trade Minister Muhammad Lutfi lauded DPR members for their persistence and constructive spirit which allowed the deliberations on the bill to run well.
“On behalf of the government, we express our great gratitude (to DPR) for the first phase of deliberations of the bill,” he remarked.
The minister said he had taken note of inputs delivered during the first phase of the deliberations, including the need for the government to prepare various comprehensive policies, regulations and concrete work programs to develop electronic commerce, including consumer protection, logistics costs, sound business competition, private data protection, and cyber security.
“Of course, we will intensify this process. We hope full support from DPR to implement (the law) so it can boost growth and encourage national economic recovery in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, which will eventually improve the Indonesian people’s welfare as mandated by the 1945 Constitution,” he added.
