The vaccination of inmates has reached 100 percent at some correctional facilities and 50 percent at other correctional facilities.
Surabaya, E Java (ANTARA) - Nearly 60 percent of the 28 thousand prisoners lodged in East Java correctional facilities have received the first shot of the COVID-19 vaccine, a local official has informed.

“The vaccination of inmates has reached 100 percent at some correctional facilities and 50 percent at other correctional facilities,” chief of the East Java Provincial Office of the Law and Human Rights Ministry, Krismono, said while handing over social assistance to residents in Keputih area, Surabaya on Tuesday.

The administration of first vaccine doses to inmates has yet to be completed as they are still awaiting their turn and vaccine stocks are limited, he said.

“The vaccination of inmates is still ongoing gradually,” he added.

In addition to vaccinating inmates, the Office of the Law and Human Rights Ministry has also provided basic necessities to residents in seven areas of Surabaya, capital of East Java province.

“In the second stage, we have provided 500 packages of basic necessities to residents in seven areas in Surabaya, including Gayungan, Ketintang, Menanggal, Dukuh Menanggal, Kali Kepiting, Tambak Wedi, and Keputih," Krismono said.

The assistance is aimed at alleviating the financial burden on residents exposed to and affected by the COVID-19, he added.
