Along with partners, we will accelerate the development of telecommunications and information technology infrastructure throughout IndonesiaJakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia is currently accelerating the development of telecommunications and information technology infrastructure, according to Communication and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate.
The minister made the statement during the Southeast Asia Internet Governance Forum (SEA IGF) 2021 in Bali.
Acceleration of digital infrastructure development in Indonesia encompasses the deployment of submarine cables and the construction of base transceiver station (BTS) towers and telecommunications satellites.
"Along with partners, we will accelerate the development of telecommunications and information technology infrastructure throughout Indonesia," Plate stated on Wednesday.
The government involves the private sector for developing digital infrastructure through partnerships, including for construction of the Palapa Ring and the laying of cables on land and under the sea in order to offer internet access across Indonesia.
Indonesia has also deployed 5G networks commercially in several cities.

On the occasion, Minister Plate also shed light on the 2021-2024 Digital Indonesia Roadmap encompassing digital infrastructure, digital government, digital economy, and digital society.
In connection with policymaking, the government is open to inputs from various stakeholders, either through public consultations or discussions.
In addition to development, Indonesia faces myriad challenges arising from the presence of the internet. Such obstacle was overcome through digital literacy to offer internet skills at both basic and advanced levels.
The government also handled negative content by curbing hoaxes and writing counter-narratives.

Indonesia is also actively involved in various forums both at the regional and international levels.
On the occasion, Plate addressed that Indonesia is open to collaborate for facilitating international data protection and cross-border data flow in order to form a safe and productive digital ecosystem.
SEA IGF is a regional forum in Southeast Asia that discusses development of the internet as well as comprehensive solutions for internet governance. This year's event was held in a hybrid format as a face-to-face meeting in Bali and via videoconference on September 1-2.
