Bogor, West Java (ANTARA) - Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo highlighted the importance of reliable and competent agricultural human resources to enhance Indonesia's agricultural productivity and competitiveness with other countries.

"Surely, we also need to enhance our technology, innovation, networking, and cooperation," Minister Limpo noted in his written statement received from Bogor, West Java, on Thursday.

Competent and advanced agricultural human resources will surely be able to suitably harness high-quality farmlands and water supply, best-quality crop seeds, and advanced technology and mechanics to enhance the quality of national agriculture, according to Limpo.

Proper government policies and financial support are also deemed necessary to allow farmers to realize their best potential, he added.

Minister Limpo made the statement while addressing 250 graduates of the Bogor Agriculture Development Polytechnic, a ministry-owned higher education institution aimed at developing high-quality, professional, and competitive agricultural human resources in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the ministry's Agricultural Human Resources Development Agency Head, Dedi Nursyamsi, also congratulated the graduates while encouraging them to engage in the development of national agriculture after completing their studies at the polytechnic.

"Upon graduation, the opportunity to contribute to Indonesia's agriculture has been opened for you," Nursyamsi stated.

Nursyamsi reminded graduates that the current goal of Indonesia's agricultural development is to maintain a stable and sufficient supply of food for the around 273 million population of Indonesia, enhance the lives and well-being of farmers, and boost the exports of agriculture products.

As new participants to develop Indonesia's agriculture, he expressed hope that polytechnic graduates would initiate and innovate independently without utilizing imported products and the government's support.

"We expect professional and high-spirited agricultural human resources (from this polytechnic) to utilize, maintain, and optimize our agriculture potential and infrastructure," Nursyamsi affirmed.
