"This collaboration is important to facilitate regional governments to accelerate digital transformation in their regions on the four strategic sectors of infrastructure, governance, economy, and society," Minister Plate stated during the meeting with DPD RI senators.
Regional governments are obligated to develop digital infrastructure by ensuring convenient permits and assistance for telecommunication providers installing communication facilities in their region, Plate was quoted as saying on Wednesday.
The minister remarked that assistance for the construction of base transceiver stations (BTS) towers and installation of land or sea optic fiber cables were part of the responsibilities of the regional governments.
Digitization in the government sector should be conducted by gradual migration to the temporary National Data Center hosted by the Communication and Informatics Ministry, he noted.

Plate remarked that the total data centers currently utilized by central and regional governments had reached 2,700, yet merely three percent were compliant with the Global Standard Cloud.
"This means almost 97 percent of our data centers are substandard, and this may cause budget inefficiency. A substandard data center would also impede integration and interoperability efforts that may prevent the authority from deciding on urgent matters quickly," Plate remarked.
The DPD can play its role to accelerate the digitization efforts by encouraging regional governments to migrate their system to the National Data Centre, he stated.
"We encourage regional governments to utilize our temporary data center facility, as it will be convenient for them, and they will no longer need to prepare the server on their own," the minister stated.
Regional governments should also encourage micro, small, and medium enterprises to adopt digital technology and encourage residents to participate in the use of digital technology, Plate added.
