Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government expects vaccination coverage to reach 80 percent by December 2021, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, has said.

To meet the target and achieve herd immunity, 337 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines will need to be administered across Indonesia, he informed at the CIMB Niaga Forum Indonesia Bangkit on Wednesday.

“Right now, we are pursuing vaccination coverage. The government has made a roadmap to achieve our target," Hartarto said

From early January to September 27, 2021, at least 88.29 million first doses and 49.48 million second doses have been administered in Indonesia, which account for 32.76 percent of the total target, he added.

So far, 1.97 million medical workers have received the first dose and 1.82 million have obtained the second dose, he informed.

Meanwhile, 27.78 million public officers have received the first dose of vaccination and 17.64 million have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, he said.

Though the vaccination target for the elderly group was 21.55 million, just 6.31 million have received the first shot and 4.31 million have received the second shot of the vaccine, he added.

Of the target of 141.21 million for the general public and vulnerable people, 47.58 million or 33.7 percent first doses and 22.44 million doses or 15.89 percent second doses have been administered so far, Hartarto said.

The government is targeting to vaccinate 26.7 million kids aged above 12, with 3.62 million or 13.59 percent doses provided in the first phase and 2.47 million doses or 9.26 percent in the second phase, he noted.

The Indonesian government has continued to expedite vaccinations across the country and is pushing a vaccination target of 2.5 million doses each per day for September and October, 2.1 million doses per day for November, and 1.5 million doses per day for December, he added.

Speaking on vaccine supply, Minister Hartarto said that cumulatively, from January to August 2021, 158.53 million vaccine doses have arrived in Indonesia.

However, the government is still targeting to get 80.3 million doses in September, 54.7 million doses in October, 49.9 million doses in November, and 50.5 million doses in December this year, he informed.
