Jakarta (ANTARA) - Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Minister Nadiem Makarim called for side-by-side development of artificial intelligence (AI) and character intelligence on the part of its users and creators.

"Artificial intelligence has been in development for at least two decades and has become part of our daily lives," Makarim stated during a virtual symposium held on Thursday.

"The development of science and the global situation will accelerate the application of AI in various fields and will have a massive impact on the world of work in future. This will be unavoidable, and we cannot stop it," he affirmed.

"Hence, this leaves us with no choice but to prepare ourselves to handle AI through character intelligence," he noted.

Moreover, the minister remarked that AI will aid in addressing several problems in future, including those faced by education institutions, such as universities.

"AI will help the university accelerate the quality of its institution and education, which aligns with the purpose of Freedom Study - Freedom Campus," he expounded.

"Administrative duty that usually becomes a burden for lecturers during the accreditation application can now be facilitated through the application of technology. Education will also become more personal since students can develop themselves in accordance with their interests and skills," he affirmed.
