The results are not dangerous, because all those who are exposed have been known to have received vaccinations
Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) - Tangerang Mayor Arief R Wismansyah has said that students of schools that have been temporarily closed for 10 days due to COVID-19 cases have continued to study online.

"Students whose schools are closed because there are cases of the spread of COVID-19, continue to study online. So, there is no stopping teaching and learning (activities)," he remarked in Tangerang 13 State Middle School, Banten on Friday.

He said the decision to close schools for 10 days was part of the policy chosen for preventing the spread of COVID-19, even though a seven-day closure is deemed sufficient.

He asked students to remain calm and follow the advice given by health workers for curbing COVID-19 spread. "Later, the school will also be cleaned and health workers will conduct supervision," he said.

Meanwhile, head of the Education Office, Jamaluddin, said that the schools were closed on Thursday (September 30) for 10 days after a student tested positive for COVID-19, in accordance with the Mayor's instructions.

The schools have undertaken several efforts to handle the situation, including disinfecting their premises and supervision of students undergoing isolation. "Face-to-face learning in other schools continues to run as usual," he informed.

Earlier, 25 students, a teacher, and an administrative employee across 15 schools tested positive for COVID-19 based on the results of a random swab test, he said.

The Tangerang City Health Office collected 873 samples from 18 junior high schools, and the results revealed one COVID-19 infection, he added.

"The results are not dangerous, because all those who are exposed have been known to have received vaccinations. So, they are medically recorded as asymptomatic and mild symptoms with a high CT value. So, the potential for transmission is quite low," head of the Health Office, Dr. Dini Anggeraeni, said.

The Tangerang city government has followed-up on the cases and provided assistance to the 27 infected students and staff in the form of health checks and medicine allocation, she informed. In addition, close contact tracing in the ratio of 1:15 has been carried out in their family, school, and social environment, she added.
