Timika (ANTARA) - The Central Java and Jambi contingents have won gold in the men's 15-ball and 8-ball doubles, respectively, in the billiards competition at the Papua National Sports Week (PON) XX.

Central Java reached the highest podium of the 15-ball men’s doubles after the victory of Ricky Yang-Rico Dela Wijaya at the Biliar SP5 sports arena (GOR), Mimika, on Tuesday.

In the final match, the pair drubbed South Sulawesi’s Ismail Kadir-Ahmad Riswan Adi Putra 5-0.

“The victory was due to luck as well. The good point is we were able to stay unified and focused on the game. To be noted that if we have worked so hard, the luck will come by itself,” Wijaya told ANTARA on Tuesday.

The Central Java billiards team also expressed its ambition to maintain the lead in the medal tally, which had been obtained earlier at the 2016 West Java PON.

Riau Islands pair Suprianto-Andri and Yogyakarta pair Agus Deser Efendi-Wisnu Eko Marsudi secured bronze medals in the competition.

Meanwhile, Jambi pocketed the gold medal in the men’s 8-ball doubles by knocking out the South Kalimantan team.

At the session, which ran simultaneously with the 15-ball men’s doubles, Jambi pair Rizky-Gontor Alamsyah defeated South Kalimantan's Arun-Noor Hidayatullah 6-2.

Meanwhile, East Java pair Erwin-Rudy S and the host pair Hamka Jaya-Bachrain Rauf secured the bronze in the competition.
