The average daily vaccination rate at the sports venues are only a dozen, and we are striving to encourage the residents to be vaccinated and thus, increase the local vaccination rate
Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA) - Jayapura's Papua Bangkit (Papua Rising) Sports Complex, in addition to hosting gymnastics sports competitions, is also operating a vaccination centre for the public and match spectators.

As a vaccination certificate is mandatory for entry to the sports venues, unvaccinated spectators can immediately get a COVID-19 vaccine jab at the center and gain access to the match stands.

Indra Hidayat, 23, said he registered for the vaccination at the Papua Bangkit Sports Complex as he wanted to watch a football match on Friday (October 8, 2021). He decided to get the vaccine at the sports complex despite the football match being hosted at another sports venue.

"I decided to undergo the vaccination today because I want to watch the football match tomorrow. If I forget the vaccination today, I am afraid I cannot enter the sports venue tomorrow," Hidayat said.

Hidayat said that he had earlier been afraid to take the vaccine as he is asthmatic, but health workers at the vaccination centre convinced him that the vaccine is safe, even for people with his condition. He thus gained confidence to get the vaccine.

Meanwhile, a doctor at the vaccination centre said that health workers are administering only a dozen vaccine doses, on average, every day at the centre.

"The average daily vaccination rate at the sports venues are only a dozen, and we are striving to encourage the residents to be vaccinated and thus, increase the local vaccination rate," doctor-on-duty at the vaccination centre, Second Inspector Mohammad Irsyad, informed.

Doctors deployed at vaccination centres inside the PON XX sports venues have been brought in from the Indonesian Police's Medical and Health Centre, thus, competence and experience is assured, he added.

The vaccination centre at the Papua Bangkit Sports Centre will remain open throughout the PON XX National Games from 9:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. local time (UTC +9) daily. The Sinovac vaccine is being provided at the vaccination centre.
